About Us

BK Connected Solutions is the areas premier IT and Security company!  With over 30 years of experience in security, fire, video surveillance and access control systems, BKCS can handle all of your low voltage needs.  We are registered with and regulated by the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) and carry a Virginia State Contractor’s license.

As technology advanced we discovered a need for an IT department.  In January 2016 we brought on a Network Engineer and staffed our IT department with top experts in network design, managed IT services, disaster recovery and VoIP telephone systems.

We have a vast knowledge of residential, commercial, and industrial applications for all of the products we sell, install, and service. We attend regular seminars and training classes to stay abreast of this vastly changing industry.

Kate Horton

President/Owner
Kate Horton, the President and CEO started BK Security and Home Automation, Inc. in June 2003 here in Frederick County, Va. Responding to advancing technology, in January 2016, Kate re-branded the company as BK Connected Solutions.
Kate is an active member in the security industry.  She is the past President of the Virginia Chapter of the Electronic Security Association (ESA), past Vice President of Region 5 of the Virginia ESA and ESA Conference Chair.  During this time, Kate was active with legislative issues in the security industry and a frequent attendee of the General Assembly and House of Delegate hearings in Richmond.
Kate is an active member of the community supporting many organizations.  She has served on the Winchester Area Temporary Thermal Shelter (WATTS) board, the Red Cross board, and the Blue Ridge Hospice Butterfly Club Committee. She is an active member of the Apple Federal Credit Union Advisory Board. In 2016, Kate was nominated for and accepted the prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year aware through the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber. In addition, Kate has been accepted into the National Cohort at Babson College on behalf of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program! Kate was chosen from a strong pool of finalists. With Kate’s dedication and strong commitment, she will benefit from the program to help create new jobs and economic opportunity in our community and beyond! We are looking forward to what this program has in store for both Kate and our community!

Barry Horton

Vice-President/Co-Owner
Barry Horton is the Vice President and Co-owner of BK Connected Solutions (d/b/a BK Connected Solutions). located in Winchester, Virginia.  Barry brings more than 40 years of hands on security and fire system experience to the company.  His interest in security goes way back to his childhood – as soon as he was big enough to tote a box of wire, Barry could be found two steps behind his father, a career security man himself!  Prior to BK Connected Solutions, Barry was a property manager, construction manager and was the senior maintenance advisor for a large residential community in Northern Virginia.

Jessica Kidd

Office  Manager
Jessica Kidd is the Office Manager for BK Connected Solutions. She serves many functions to assist with daily operations as well as various accounting and administrative tasks. Jessica came to BK Connected Solutions with a history and previous experience in customer service and finance. She has been with us since 2015 and had has various roles within the customer relations and office administration. Jessica handles most of our in-house accounts receivable and accounts payable functions and oversees the customer relations department. In her spare time, Jess maintains a full household, a husband and three children, with the most recent being born in January 2017!

Kevin Clifford

Network Engineer
Kevin is a self-motivated IT professional with over ten years of experience in supporting the most highly demanding, fast-paced environments. He has extensive experience in designing, implementing, and managing efficient, as well as cost-effective IT solutions. He has in-depth knowledge of Microsoft applications and extensive experience maintaining mission critical applications. His solid technical skills have proven his ability to problem-solve, therefore improving the efficiency and ease of operations. Kevin has managerial experience along with strong, effective communication with technical, as well as non-technical employees, including executive-level management. His excellent prioritization, planning, and implementation abilities along with his commitment to excellence have allowed him to provide top-notch service to both clients and employees over the years. Kevin maintains that commitment to excellence on a daily basis and is always looking for the most effective solutions to improve company-wide productivity and success.

Allison Dillow

Marketing Manager
Allison is the most recent addition to our team. As of October 2016, we decided to expand our business development to include a marketing position. Allison comes to us with over 10 years of marketing experience. She has 15 years of combined experience in sales and customer service as well. Allison loves to be a part of the community and enjoys various outreach an volunteering opportunities for local organizations and fundraisers. She currently volunteers her time for the local non-profit, HeroHomes where she coordinates various community fundraising events and takes on outreach for the organization. Allison also serves as an ambassador for the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber. When she isn’t working and can’t be found at home with her husband and two children, you will most likely catch her in action as she dedicates any spare time to photography.

Eric Martin

Business Development Manager
Eric is the man responsible for drumming up new business. Eric handles all sales, both commercial and residential in the security and fire division. Eric came on board with us in February 2016. Eric possesses multiple certifications and holds many years of experience within the security and telecommunications industry. Prior to his employment with BKCS, Eric was responsible for driving a 200% growth in revenue, held various titles such as operations and installation manager and has been well versed within this industry. Eric’s knowledge and experience has been an asset to BKCS. He has contributed to our growth by increasing sales in his short time with us by $200K.

Nina Baer

Customer Relations Specialist
Nina Baer is our customer relations specialist. Being the face when you step into our office or the voice when you give us a call, Nina holds a significant role in our company. Her primary responsibilities include handling the needs of our clients and ensuring proactive support. Nina joined the BKCS team in 2016. Prior to her employment with us, she spent 6 years on active duty with the Army as a medic where she worked in security and intel. During her time on active duty she was deployed to Haiti as a medic and worked with the University of Miami Hospital medical tent with pediatrics. Nina holds over 15 years in customer service. She is a valued asset to both the BKCS team and our clients!

Mark Baker

Senior Security & IT Specialist
Mark has been with BKCS since 2010. Mark has over 7 years of commercial and residential experience with extensive installations as well as an in-depth knowledge of various security and fire systems. Mark is also one of our senior security and IT Specialists. He handles the more extensive projects in fire, security and IT as well as taking the lead with the training and on-boarding of new technical support team members.

Nathan Sowder

Senior Security & IT Specialist
Nate has been with BKCS for 3 years. Nate handles our more extensive installations, maintenance / troubleshooting as well as security system repair and fire alarm system maintenance. Nate also has experience and handles various IT projects as well as security and fire. His experience in both commercial and residential make him a very valuable asset to our team.  Nate is a great team leader and does well leading our technical support team.

Travis Fouch

Low Voltage Specialist
Travis is one of our most recent additions to the technical support team. Travis came to BKCS with 24 years of experience. His background has primarily been with telecom copper and fiber troubleshooting as well as installation. Travis has held the lead on many various government and high priority security projects all over the United States as well as assignments overseas.  In his spare time when he is not working behind the scenes at a BKCS job site, you can find Travis spending his spare time listening and playing music, fishing and spending time with his daughters.

Matt Chapman

Low Voltage Specialist
Matt is our newest technical support team member. Matt has over 10 years of experience in the industry. His background has primarily been in Information Technology but also has worked with diagnostics, installation and repair of mechanical and electrical systems. Matt enjoys fishing and kayaking in his spare time.
